Viviane Reding, European Commissioner and Patron of the ChooseESC! campaign, presented 7 April 2008 driver training certificates to eight EU citizens who had won the Intelligent Car Quiz of the Commission. The quiz is designed to make European citizens aware of modern, information and communication based road transport safety systems. Among the new technologies addressed in the Intelligent Car Quiz are Electronic Stability Control (ESC), emergency Call (eCall), Gear Shift Indicator (GSI) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
The 8 lucky winners from France, Germany, Malta, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom, were drawn from a pot of nearly 10,000 people who had successfully completed the Intelligent Car Quiz hosted on the Commission's website. In total, more than 30,000 people have made the quiz so far (click here to try the quiz).

The prize was a weekend trip to Luxemburg and an advanced driving course sponsored by the Automobile Club of Luxemburg (ACL) that took place 6-7 April 2008 in Colmar-Berg, Luxemburg. The winners were also trained in how ESC works and they had the opportunity to test it on the test track.
In her speech, Commissioner Reding highlighted again the facts that 100,000 injuries could be avoided, and 4,000 lives saved if all cars in the EU were equipped with ESC, and outed herself as a “passionate supporter of ESC”. She also praised the effort of the FIA Foundation and the rest of the eSafetyAware members for their strong commitment to eSafety awareness. Mrs Reding ended the event by test-driving an ESC equipped car to demonstrate once again the safety benefits of ESC. |
